Arthur L. Siegel, O.D.

Dr. Arthur L. Siegel provides low vision care for our patients at The Eye Center. He attended Adelphi University in Garden City, New York before his acceptance to the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts. There he received his Bachelor of Science in Optometry and, later, his Doctorate of Optometry in 1974. Dr. Siegel did low vision training at the at the New England College of Optometry as well as the Gunderson Vision Rehabilitation Clinic located at Boston University Medical Center, Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Siegel has had vast experience in all phases of vision care while in general optometric practice, before he turned his attention exclusively to low vision and vision rehabilitation. He has been a consultant and Low Vision Panel Member of the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired since 1980. Dr. Siegel is a member of the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians and the American Optometric Association and their respective low vision committees. In addition, he is a member of AER, the Association for the Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired.

Dr. Siegel's involvement in low vision extends beyond the office as he frequently lectures to low vision groups and support groups for the visually impaired. He has been directly involved in the formation of support groups, as well. Dr. Siegel has also been asked to speak to local and state agencies, which work with the blind and visually impaired. He has developed low vision services for many ophthalmology practices, which previously did not have such a service. He has also been asked to serve as a consultant for leading manufacturer of low vision products.

Dr. Siegel continues to update his knowledge with advanced low vision courses at such institutions as the Lighthouse in New York. He has an active involvement in the instruction of new high-tech technology, made available in recent years, for the blind and visually impaired
