Susan R. Carter, M.D.
Dr. Susan R. Carter specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery
of the eyelids, eye socket (orbit) and tear drainage system. She is a
board certified ophthalmologist and a fellow of the American Society
of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons.
Dr. Carter attended Yale College and the Yale School of Medicine after
growing up in the Boston area. She moved to California for a three-year
residency in ophthalmology at the University of California San Francisco
(UCSF), one of the top ten programs in the country. She completed two
years of additional fellowship training specifically in cosmetic and
reconstructive ophthalmic plastic surgery. Dr. Carter joined the full
time faculty at UCSF where she worked for seven years and was promoted
to associate professor. While at UCSF, she had a busy surgical practice
and was Vice Chair for Resident Education in the Department of Ophthalmology.
In addition, she performed research in the areas of innovative eye plastic
surgery techniques, and new treatments for diseases of the eyelids and
orbit.
Dr. Carter has spoken at numerous national meetings including the American
Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the American
Academy of Ophthalmology and Minimally Invasive Aesthetic Surgery. She
has been invited to speak at international meetings in Paris, France,
Sydney, Australia and Mexico City, Mexico. She recently received an Achievement
Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Carter has published
numerous articles and book chapters on topics ranging from cosmetic botox
and eyelid lifts, to the repair of drooping eyelids in children and is
a nationally recognized expert in the field of ophthalmic plastic surgery.
Having relocated to the east coast, she brings this expertise to the
patients of The Eye Center.
